Decorah, Iowa - Adeline Langland

December 22, 1927 - February 28, 2026

Adeline Langland, age 98, of Decorah, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026, at The Highlands (Aase Haugen).

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Helms Funeral Home, 306 E. Water Street, Decorah, with Pastor Matthew Becker presiding. Burial will follow the lunch at Highland Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Adeline Doris Lovstuen was born on December 22, 1927, to Oscar and Florence Lovstuen. She attended rural school in Winneshiek County, Decorah High School & Luther College, where she majored in commercial subjects and education.

Adeline and Walter began dating in high school and were married on August 6, 1950, at Glenwood Lutheran Church. After their marriage, both Adeline and Walter taught at Ridgeway High School before moving to Walter's home farm in Highland Township in 1954.

Adeline soon took a position teaching commercial subjects at Spring Grove High School, where she taught for about ten years. During that time, Adeline and Walter raised two children: Steve and Karen.

Subsequently, Adeline got a job at Onsgaard State Bank in Spring Grove, where she was the secretary to the bank president until her retirement.

She was active at the Highland Lutheran Church as the financial secretary for many years. Adeline was also involved with WELCA and many other activities at Highland.

Adeline enjoyed many vacations and traveling all over the world with Walter, family, and friends. They rarely traveled alone; they always enjoyed having company. When they traveled, they would drive to most places, so they had extra time together.

Adeline and Walter celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary on August 6, 2025.

Adeline is survived by her husband, Walter, and daughter Karen Harthan. Grandsons Ben (Sarah) Harthan and Jacob Harthan. Great Granddaughters: Rebekah and Madelyn (Ben and Sarah's children)

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Florence Lovstuen, sister, Marian, and her son, Steve Langland.
